The Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) has announced the recipients of its 2026 honors recognizing scientific achievement, leadership, and service in molecular diagnostics. The awards will be presented during the AMP 2026 Annual Meeting & Expo in Seattle this November.
Elaine S. Jaffe has been selected to receive the Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics, AMP's highest honor. Jaffe is an NIH Distinguished Investigator in the Laboratory of Pathology at the National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research and Head of its Hematopathology Section.
AMP recognizes Jaffe for her contributions to the diagnosis, classification, and understanding of lymphoma and related hematologic malignancies. Over more than 50 years at the National Cancer Institute, she’s helped establish the framework used to classify lymphoid neoplasms, supporting diagnostic practice, prognostic assessment, research, and treatment. Her work also contributed to the identification of new lymphoma subtypes and advances in disease classification. Jaffe has coauthored more than 800 peer-reviewed publications and will deliver a keynote lecture following her award presentation on November 12.
Laura J. Tafe will receive the Jeffrey A. Kant Leadership Award. Tafe is Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, where she directs the Laboratory for Clinical Genomics and Advanced Technology.
Tafe has more than 15 years of leadership and service to AMP, including her term as AMP president in 2023. She also chaired the 2021 Annual Meeting Program Committee, guiding the society's scientific and educational programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her additional leadership roles have included service on the AMP Board of Directors, the Training and Education Committee, the Gene Fusions Working Group, the Lung Biomarker Guideline Expert Panel, and the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics Editorial Board.
Daniel E. Sabath has been named the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award. Sabath is Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington, Chief of Service for Hospital Laboratories at Harborview Medical Center, and Laboratory Director of the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratories at UW Medical Center.
AMP recognizes Sabath for more than 25 years of service to the organization, including his term as AMP president in 2022, as well as his mentorship and contributions to the molecular pathology community.
In a statement, AMP President Aaron D. Bossler said the awards recognize the recipients' "longstanding leadership, steadfast service and continuous commitment to advancing molecular diagnostics and improving patient care."
