The development of the UAE-based Arab Pangenome Reference (UPR) addresses gaps in existing human genome references, facilitating precision medicine tailored for Arab populations. By analyzing the genomes of 53 healthy individuals from eight Arab nations, researchers produced 106 high-quality genome maps using advanced sequencing techniques. This project uncovered millions of previously undocumented DNA bases and numerous structural genome changes, including population-specific duplications likely associated with recessive disorders, making the UPR a valuable resource for future genetic research and healthcare.
